Manufacturer warranties on panels (typically 25 years) and inverters (typically 10–25 years) are held with the manufacturer, not the installer, so they survive an installer going out of business. What you lose is the installer's workmanship warranty and a company to process the claim. Pennstar Solar can file manufacturer warranty claims on your behalf and handle the replacement labor.

It depends on the failure. A diagnostic inspection identifies the exact problem and comes with a fixed quote before any work begins. Simple fixes like a failed optimizer or chewed wiring are often a few hundred dollars; a full string inverter replacement typically runs $2,000–$4,000 installed if no warranty coverage applies. If equipment is still under manufacturer warranty, you often pay only labor.

First, confirm whether the system is owned, financed, or leased — that determines who's responsible for it. Then get the monitoring transferred to your name and have the system inspected so you know its actual condition and production. If the system is owned, also make sure it's registered to earn PA SREC income in your name — many home buyers miss out on hundreds of dollars a year simply because the registration was never transferred.

Common causes: the system stopped producing (so no certificates are being minted), the PJM-GATS registration lapsed, or the aggregator relationship was tied to your old installer. We can diagnose which one it is, repair production if needed, and re-register your system so payments resume.

Solar panels themselves are low-maintenance, but systems are not maintenance-free.
