Net metering allows PECO customers to send excess solar electricity back to the grid and receive a credit on their bill at the full retail rate. Pennsylvania offers 1:1 net metering, meaning every kilowatt-hour you export is worth the same as every kilowatt-hour you consume. Credits roll over month to month, so your summer overproduction offsets your winter bills. Important: PECO performs an annual true-up on May 31st — any remaining excess credits are cashed out at the energy-only rate (excluding delivery and transmission), so proper system sizing matters.

SRECs (Solar Renewable Energy Certificates) are credits generated for every 1,000 kWh (1 MWh) your solar system produces. In Pennsylvania, electric utilities are required to purchase SRECs to meet renewable energy mandates, creating a market where homeowners can sell their SRECs for additional income. A typical 10 kW residential system generates about 12 SRECs per year. SREC prices fluctuate but currently trade in the $15-$25 range in the PA market.
